Ever since my mom’s visit where she discovered okra in Berlin, it was pretty much set in stone that we were going to be having gumbo on New Year’s. Fried plaintains, white rice… and a really red patchwork gumbo. We didn’t bother looking for any andouille – so it was shrimp, turkey breast, a decent knoblauchwurst, and chorizo. Leftovers are a great way to start the new year.
