extra reading

You could probably spend all 10 months reading and reading books, pamphlets, and websites on what you should and shouldn’t do and what may happen to you. 99% of these books are not written with people of color in mind so you can learn interesting things, like women’s nipples come in two colors, pink and beige. It’s amusing that in the same books the author will randomly mention something about Caucasian women, as if the other 299 pages were inclusive.

I have a whole bunch of books that have arrived, are arriving or yet to be ordered that have nothing to with any of that which is actually exciting. Lahiri, Hunter-Gault, Danticat, Suesskind (I’ve learned more German adjectives in the first 5 chapters than I’ve learned in the past 2 years!) But I can’t deny getting a good laugh out of this German, and therefore, also non-POC baby book. Birthing looks like fun! The doctor and his medical instruments crack me up…

That baby looks very happy to be born, too.

Congratulations, by the way! Hope it all works out as nicely as it does in the picture book.
