there it was. this bright horizontal line separating nothingness from nothingness. it was strange. all of a sudden CSI:Antartica disappeared along with the forensic analyst looking at congeled blood on the walls of an igloo. so i have no tv. in a "normal" situation, i wouldn’t really care or even own a tv. however, it’s happened again. i’m living in another country with shaky language skills. tv is not just a waste of time. it’s language learning! it’s listening comprehension! i can watch Tim Mälzer on VOX to learn culinary vocab or Sex in the City to help me with my first gyn appointment in German.
i moved to berlin from paris, and then montbazon, in august. all hype and muscular from working 3 months in the kitchen and having to walk 1/2 hour just to get to the nearest so-called town. august in berlin was warm sunny busy. september is turning cold. windy. i almost got hit with a shard of falling flowerpot on my way to the U-Bahn yesterday.
no more home improvement shows, talk shows, court shows, tatort, or jurassic park 1-27. probably a good thing. i don’t really know berlin yet. just bits and pieces. not enough. i’m looking forward to discovering more. unlayering. i’m starting at the Black Atlantic. the conference is taking place at Haus den Kulturen der Welt. lots of interesting panel discussions. for free! paul gilroy and edouard glissant discussed double consciousness and créolisation. there was an all women panel on the topic "becoming black europe." tonight: david levering lewis and others on WEB Du Bois. way better than Frauentausch.
